Specimen Requirement (s)
Specimen: Plasma
Type: Container/Tube: White (K3EDTA) PPT (preferred) or Lavender (EDTA) tube.
Plasma must be separated from cells within 2 hours of draw time - if lavendar drawn, plasma must be aliquoted off the cells within 2 hours of draw time.
Specimen Volume: full tube
Specimen Minimum Volume: 2 mL
Collection Instructions:
- Fasting recommended.
- Morning draw recommended due to diurnal rhythm.
Surgical:
- Order the PTH level before the case.
- Note time that parathyroid was removed.
- After specimen collection, call lab to come pick up the specimen.
- Lab personnel will pick up specimen from patient receiving.
Lab instructions:
- Plasma must be separated from cells within 2 hours of draw time.
- If lavender tube drawn, plasma must be aliquoted off the cells wtihn 2 hours of draw time.
Surgical
- Retrieve specimen from patient receiving.
- Test immediately.
- If there are delays, call pathologist and OR
- Call OR with results as soon as available.
