Specimen Type: plasma (preferred) or serum

Container/Tube:   Mint green (LiHep) tube (preferred), SST (gold or marble) or plain red top

Specimen Volume:     2 mL

Specimen Minimum Volume:  1 mL

 

Collection Instructions: NA

Lab instructions: Allow serum to clot completely at room temperature.  Separate serum or plasma from cells ASAP

Unacceptable Conditions

  • Vitreous and I.V. fluids 
  • Specimens collected in gray (sodium fluoride/potassium oxalate) 
  • Hemolyzed specimens.
