Interpretive Data
Pleural - Glucose < 60 mg/dL is indicative of complicated parapneumonic effusions.
Peritoneal - normally equivalent to plasma glucose. Will be less than concurrent plasma value in peritoneal bacterial infections.
Pericardial - Fluid to serum glucose ratio < 0.3 is indicative of bacterial infection.
