Specimen Type: Urine, random
Container/Tube: Yellow/Red-top UA preservative tube
Specimen Volume: Full tube
Specimen Minimum Volume: 10 mL
Collection Instructions:
- Collect a midstream voided specimen following directions printed on outer wrapping of Urine Complete Kit.
- Using cannula in collection cup lid, fill yellow/red preservative tube.
Additional Information:
- Label tube according to labeling procedure.
- A catheterized specimen is acceptable.
- Provide collection date and time, and method of collection.
- If storage and transport is >1 hour, refrigerate specimen.
- Specimen should be received in the laboratory within 1 hour of collection.

- pH: "Urine pH is affected by diet, medications, systemic acid-base disturbances, and renal tubular function. pH may affect urinary stone formation. For example, urine pH below 6.0 may help reduce the tendency for calcium phosphate stones and pH greater than 6.0 may reduce the tendency for uric acid stone formation.
