Either a fasting plasma glucose >126 mg/dL or a random glucose >200 mg/dL plus symptoms is diagnostic for diabetes when confirmed on another day. Fasting values >100 mg/dL but <126 mg/dL are diagnostic for impaired fasting glucose.
